Building Alternative Food Systems

At Counterpoints Arts’ invitation, Dana and Paulina Sidhom delivered a workshop on Building Alternative Food Systems at Custom Folkestone, as part of Platforma #5 Festival.

Drawing from their research on food bank systems with Southwark Community Hub, they ran a participatory workshop on re-imagining a better, fairer food banking and sharing system, aimed at empowering those in need and those donating. They examined the system from how we make donations through to the user experience, encouraging us to reconsider our responsibility as citizens, beyond existing power structures, and to redesign food systems collectively.

The workshop included collaboration with Ian Solomon-Kawall of May Project Gardens, who ran a participatory session of apple-pressing, and talked participants through the ethics of running ecological community projects.
